Tang Gong (aka Duo Lao Fang) has officially moved from Monterey Park to Arcadia, and for dim sum fans in the SGV, that’s big news.
This spot was once a go-to for many, and now it’s back with some fresh twists.
But is it still worth a visit? Here’s everything we tried—and what you need to know before heading over.
Tang Gong Dim Sum Prices
Tang Gong keeps it simple when it comes to pricing. Here’s what to expect:
• Small dishes: $5.38
• Medium dishes: $6.38
• Large dishes: $7.38
• Specialty items: $9.38
On weekdays (Monday through Friday), you’ll save $1 per dish, making it an even better deal for dim sum lovers.
These prices are competitive with other SGV dim sum spots and feel fair for the variety and portions offered.
Plus, tea is currently free, which is a rare and welcome bonus.
The Highlights
Let’s talk about what stood out. The abalone sticky rice in lotus leaf was a winner. It’s packed with abalone, pork, Chinese sausage, chestnuts, and mushrooms, making every bite feel like a treasure hunt.
Another must-try is their $26 lobster special with noodles. Fresh lobster straight from the tank at that price? That’s hard to beat.
The char siu puff pastry is another standout. It’s flaky, buttery, and filled with sweet-savory pork.
If you like crispy textures, you’ll love their mochi with pork filling—crispy on the outside, soft and squishy inside. The filling is generous, and the flavors are perfectly balanced.
What’s Just Okay
Not everything blew us away. The shrimp dumplings (har gow) were a bit disappointing. The wrappers were thick, and the shrimp filling lacked that fresh snap you expect.
If dim sum classics like har gow and shumai are your go-to orders, you might leave feeling underwhelmed.
Also, some items weren’t piping hot by the time we ate them—a downside of filming while eating although you probably won’t run into this issue even if your ‘camera eats first’.
Is This Place For Me?
If you’re someone who loves variety, Tang Gong has you covered.
They offer dim sum classics, chef specials, noodles, and even congee. It’s great for groups who want options.
And if you’re a fan of unique dishes like abalone sticky rice or budget-friendly lobster deals, this is your spot.
However, if you’re all about the perfect shrimp dumplings/har gao or shumai, you might not be in love with Tang Gong.
The Bottom Line
Tang Gong brings solid dim sum to Arcadia, with standout dishes and affordable prices.
The restaurant is still new to this location, so there’s no wait time for now.
For $86, we had a feast that included tea (currently free!) and plenty of leftovers.
If you’re curious to see how this once-famous dim sum spot holds up in its new home, Tang Gong is worth checking out. Just don’t expect perfection in every dish.
