If you’re looking for a place to enjoy old-school comfort food in the heart of Arcadia, Moffett’s Family Restaurant & Chicken Pie Shoppe might be exactly what you need.
Known for its vintage vibes and famous chicken pot pies, Moffett’s has been serving up hearty, homestyle meals since 1975.
But is it worth a visit? Let’s dive into everything you need to know about this local spot.
What to Expect at Moffett’s
Walking into Moffett’s feels like stepping back in time. The decor has a cozy, vintage charm with touches that remind you of a classic diner.
It’s the kind of place where you might imagine families gathering for a meal decades ago. Even the music playing in the background is nostalgic.
The menu sticks to comforting American dishes. Think chicken pot pies, liver and onions, biscuits with gravy, and mashed potatoes.
This is food that feels homemade, like something grandma might have served.
Who is Moffett’s For?
Moffett’s is perfect for:
• Families: The warm atmosphere and simple menu make it a great spot for all ages.
• Comfort Food Lovers: If you enjoy hearty, classic dishes, you’ll feel right at home here.
• Locals and Nostalgia Seekers: It’s a slice of history in a city full of modern restaurants. If you want to experience something different from the usual, this is your spot.
That said, Moffett’s might not be for you if:
• You’re looking for trendy or health-conscious meals: The menu leans heavily on rich, comforting dishes, and you won’t find kale salads or avocado toast here.
• You’re in a hurry: The relaxed vibe might mean slower service during busy times.
What We Ordered
We started with breakfast and tried the biscuits and gravy.
The biscuits were soft and fluffy, smothered in a creamy (but slightly salty) gravy. The eggs and sausage rounded out the meal nicely.
You also get a choice of hash browns or tater tots—we’re firmly team tater tots, especially with a drizzle of gravy.
The star of the show, though, is the chicken pot pie. The crust is buttery and flaky, even with the savory gravy on top.
Inside, you’ll find a comforting mix of chicken, vegetables, and gravy that tastes like a hug in food form.
For dessert, we grabbed a slice of pie to-go. Trust us, you’ll want to save room for this.
The only downside was the liver & onions. We felt as though this dish is definitely one that is an acquired taste. As much as we wanted to like it, we couldn’t and won’t be ordering it again.
However, we received a great comment from @josephgee2515 on our video which helps shed some light on the liver & onions item & history:
Their Liver & Onions is definitely an acquired taste and one of my absolute favorites. Liver & Onions is a longtime oldschool menu item for many American Diners and was taken off many menus for some reason probably around ’03. It was VERY popular at places like Norm’s and The Pantry in DTLA and it was definitely disappointing to see it go at the time. Im glad this place didn’t follow suit with that horrible trend.
Handling Objections: Why You Should Try It
• “It’s not my usual style of food.” That’s the point! Moffett’s offers something different—a chance to enjoy a slower-paced, nostalgic meal that you won’t find at most modern restaurants.
• “I only eat at trendy spots.” Sometimes, it’s nice to take a break from Instagram-worthy meals and focus on flavor and comfort.
• “I don’t eat heavy food.” The portions are manageable, and you can always go for lighter options like a simple sandwich or soup.
Is It Worth It?
Absolutely. Moffett’s is more than just a restaurant—it’s a piece of Arcadia’s history. The food is hearty and satisfying, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the prices are reasonable.
Plus, if you’re a fan of classic American food, you won’t find many places like this in the San Gabriel Valley.
Tips for Visiting Moffett’s
1. Plan for leftovers: The portions are generous, and the food reheats well.
2. Try the pot pie: It’s their signature dish for a reason. (take one to go!)
3. Make it a day trip: There’s an Aldi, Half & Half Boba, Korean & Vietnamese food in this plaza and more once you’re done eating.
Final Thoughts
Moffett’s is the kind of place that reminds you of simpler times. It’s not trying to be fancy or trendy—it’s just good food served with a side of nostalgia.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s worth stopping by to experience a little piece of Arcadia’s history.
