Mariscos Jaliscos
First up was Mariscos Jaliscos in Boyle Heights.
This place was highly recommended by the La Foodies Facebook group, with many saying there was no other place to get shrimp tacos. We were excited to try it out and see if it lived up to the hype.
When we arrived, we were greeted with a makeshift seating area and a huge bottle of hot sauce on the table.
We ordered two shrimp tacos for $5 and they were served with a fried tortilla, topped with pico de gallo and avocado.
The texture of the fried taco tortilla was amazing and the pico de gallo and avocado were so fresh. The shrimp was chopped finely and it was packed with flavor.
The hot sauce added a nice kick and we couldn’t get enough.
Gracias Senor
We headed to Gracias Madre in the Pacific Palisades. This place is a bit out of the way, but it was definitely worth the drive.
We ordered two grilled shrimp tacos for $5 and they were served with homemade tortillas, cabbage, pico de gallo, and a cream sauce.
The shrimp was seasoned well and the toppings were delicious. The homemade tortillas were outstanding and they had the perfect texture.
The only downside was that the sauce could have been a bit spicier.
Playita Mariscos
Playita Mariscos is a must-visit spot for shrimp taco lovers in LA. Located in the Silverlake neighborhood, this casual taco stand offers up some of the best shrimp tacos in the city.
One of the standout features of Playita Mariscos is their variety of tortilla options – they offer both corn and flour tortillas. We tried both and both were delicious, but the flour tortilla was especially hot and crispy.
The tacos come loaded with fresh cabbage, pico de gallo, and of course, plenty of plump, juicy shrimp. The shrimp is battered and fried to perfection – not too greasy or heavy, but still perfectly crispy and chewy.
One thing to note is that parking can be a bit tight at Playita Mariscos, but it’s worth it for the delicious food.
The shrimp tacos are generously portioned and come with four large shrimp per taco. The salsa is also particularly noteworthy – it’s packed with flavor and adds a nice zing to the tacos.
Playita Mariscos is a top-notch spot for shrimp tacos. They may not offer hot sauce, but the tacos are so good that it’s easy to overlook.
With generous portions and delicious flavors, it’s hard to give these tacos anything less than a 10 out of 10. If you’re in the area and craving some delicious shrimp tacos, Playita Mariscos should be at the top of your list.
Overall, all three places had amazing shrimp tacos, but if we had to pick a winner, it would be Mariscos Jaliscos.
The shrimp tacos there were packed with flavor, the texture was perfect, and the hot sauce added a nice kick. If you’re in the area, definitely give these three places a try. You won’t be disappointed.
